Today was the final day of pre-season testing at the Bahrein circuit and the Haas F1 team had another good day of testing. Totally running 172 times around the track.
Morning session
This time Nico did the morning session, he did some high fuel testing, learning as much about the car and tire degradation as possible while driving with a heavy car. He finished p15 at the end of the day.
Nico got what he was personally looking for: “I feel comfortable that the car does what I say and not the other way around. We’ve collected huge amounts of data that the team will go through and analyze over the next few days, and it’s all information that’s important for a driver as well”.
Best time: 1:33.329 (p15)
total laps: 77
mileage: 417km
Afternoon session
Kevin Magnussen also felt happy, he did a staggering 95 laps and ended up 7th in the timesheets. First he did a full race distance simulation and the crew used the last half hour of testing by doing pit-stops: “We completed a whole race in one run with live pit stops and going out again, so I’m pretty happy. You come into testing with a plan and you expect to be having to change that plan because of issues but we didn’t really have to”.
Best time: 1:31.481 (p7)
total laps: 95
mileage: 514km
Guenther Steiner
Team principal Guenther Steiner also was content :“It was a very good day today – more than 170 laps completed without an issue. A lot of test program, race simulation with one completed and one almost completed, so a very good day. In general, the test went very smoothly with very few issues compared to years before.”
He told they still had not really a good idea about where the teams, his guess is somewhere in the midfield. But could not tell if it is in the bottom or top of the midfield. Nevertheless they are ready for the next weekend! The first race of the season!
